We would attend all night Blues parties with each other and many young Blacks were skinheads themselves. Keep in mind [Jamaican] migrants had been relatively poor and so the operating class children experienced more in normal with them as compared to the center and upper classes of Britain. We lived on the same roads, went along to the identical colleges so we partied with each other. Whilst most of Britain saw the migrants as ‘those dark individuals,’ we skinheads saw them as ‘our dark mates.’ Of course there were skinheads with racist attitudes, but a majority of skinheads had dark buddies and most skinhead gangs experienced black children amongst their stands. […] Skinhead would not really exist without Jamaica”
