Work at Height Training

MSS Health and Safety Delivers Effective Training for East Herts Council

MSS Health and Safety has just carried out a series of Working at Height training courses for East Herts Council.  These courses were tailored to meet the specific needs of the Council.  The courses were designed to reinforce existing skills and add new skills for the environmental health officers, waste monitoring and inspection officers and the caretakers to allow them to carry out their jobs more effectively.  This meets their need for ongoing development and improvement.

The one day course included a theory session followed by a practical demonstration session aimed at updating knowledge and awareness in the enforcement and inspection role.  In addition, participants’ theory knowledge of the risk assessment process and legislation was refreshed thereby increasing their competence and overall confidence.

According to Peter Dickinson, the Council’s Health and Safety Officer, “the practical part of the course was extremely beneficial as it highlighted exactly what to look for with regard to mobile towers and scaffolding and ladder safety and use.”

The courses achieved all their objectives and gave East Herts Council exactly what they were looking for.  They also worked well as a team building exercise as they encouraged the participants to work together.  The physical part of the course contained a pro-active session on tower assemblies as well as the use of ladders and this was very successful.

MSS Health and Safety was very professional with no high pressure sales push. It listened and delivered exactly what was asked for.  John Burgess, the course presenter, was excellent.  Peter Dickinson commented, “It was a real pleasure to work with him.  He understood exactly what the council were after and tailored the course accordingly.  His delivery was very good and he motivated people.  He encouraged team participation and received good feedback. The success of these courses, were also due to the proactive support of the environmental health managers and were supported by the Council’s Chief Executive and senior management team who are committed to health and safety.”
